As we shimmied into our Roxy wetsuits and the rain poured onto our blonde heads, Keira and I could hardly contain our excitement. We had signed up for a surf lesson with the Bruhwiler Surf School in Tofino, BC and well, our perma-smiles pretty much said it all.

We were beyond impressed with our entire Bruhwiler experience from start to finish. Our two pro instructors Raph Bruhwiler and Dave spent the afternoon in the ocean with us, riding waves, laughing and showing us the ropes.

It’s hard find words to describe just how incredible the sensation of catching a wave truly is. When you connect with your board on the ocean, there’s a rush of adrenaline and also, a feeling of strength and balance. Just ask Keira, who claims it’s, “better than sex!”

Our instructors stressed safety, fun and learning in a perfect and comfortable beginner setting. It was clear that these guys are in it for the love of surf and a desire to share their passion with their students.
The water may have been a little chilly, but wetsuit technology has come a long way, so it’s a lot warmer and more comfortable than you might imagine. Mix the mountains and the ocean with a laid back lifestyle and it’s no wonder this area is a surfing hot spot.

Whether you are a total beginner or just want to learn some new moves, the Bruhwiler family is dedicated to teaching surfing in a safe and fun environment. Each time I have been to Tofino and spent time with the Bruhwiler Surf School, I have had nothing but stellar experiences. I highly recommend that you check them out.

I am completely jealous of you and your experience. My BFF and I have always talked about learning to surf together. You guys look gorgeous in your photos too – just like Roxy models.
