Skoah: Simply Powerful Skin Care

Photo: Vitamin Daily

Craving some relaxation and pampering, hoping to beat the end of winter blues and get some glow back to my seemingly lacklustre skin, I visited Skoah in Yaletown for my first ever facial yesterday.

I opted for their Facialiscious treatment, as it seemed to be the best for a facial virgin such as myself.

The treatment was 75 minutes long and included cleansing, three masks, a skin analysis, some (fairly painless) extractions and divine massage of the face, shoulders,  neck, scalp, arms, hands, legs and feet. I loved settling into the cozy, heated bed between warm blankets and being given soothing cleansing and exfoliating treatments while I gently fell into relaxed bliss.

My skin felt so smooth and soft afterwards. I got up, got dressed and looked in the mirror, examining my face closely. I couldn’t believe how incredible my skin looked… and without any makeup!

Skoah doesn’t get side tracked with a bunch of unnecessary pomp and pageantry. They give you all the relaxation of a high end spa, without the superficial, stuffy feel. They are laid back, relaxed, easy to talk to and they know skin care. Plus, their products are simple, easy to understand, do what they promise and smell absolutely delicious.

I walked out feeling fantastic. I got the amazing, ethereal glowing skin that I had hoped for and purchased a bag full of products to use at home. Knowing how important it is to take good care of your skin (especially now that I am not in my 20s any more), I definitely plan to make  Skoah “workouts” a regular part of my skin care routine.

C’est Magique!

I love the look of curls and waves, but I’d never been very handy with a curling iron when it came to doing my own hair. My friend Jenna is the master of creating  my favourite look, or what we call “The Britney.” (For the record, we named this look back when Brit had enviable locks. It was long before the girl shaved her head or had a nappy mane of horrendous extensions). Getting back to the point,  I’d never been talented enough to achieve the look I loved on my own. Until now…

Enter the solution to all of my wavy  hair woes: the Infiniti by Conair You Curl. It’s a tourmaline ceramic styler  with a unique, clamp-free design and a cone-shaped barrel. It creates the soft, less structured curls that I love. No more clamping down on my hair! All you do is wrap some strands around the barrel, hold for a few seconds and then release. Voila! Curls! I gave it a trial run last night and I was pleasantly surprised. Not only is it super easy to use, but the style stayed in all night- no droopy curls, no sections falling out before I was ready to go home. (This is almost unheard of with a mane as thick and heavy as mine!)

Of course, when you’re talking styling, excellent product is also key. One of my favourite products to assist in achieving this look is Bumble and bumble’s Spray de Mode. It’s a totally light and flexible spray. It gives you the hold you desire, while still being very workable. No crunchy locks with this one- just bouncy curls, leaving your hair soft and shiny; just the way you want it.

I couldn’t be happier to have found this little gem of an iron just in time for all the Holiday parties. Two thumbs up for the Infiniti by Conair You Curl.

Maybe She’s Born With It, Maybe It’s Maybelline

A certifiable product and makeup junkie, I absolutely love experimenting with different brands, techniques, colours, and textures in an effort to find new and  fun ways to make eye-popping statements. Sometimes, I’m let down—like when my creative pursuits are undone by cake-y liner, flaking mascara, and not-so-long-lasting shadow. Other times, however, I fall head over heels—as was the case with Maybelline New York’s Eye Studio collection, which you can find in drugstores now.

I was sent an amazing train case full of Maybelline Eye Studio products to try out by the kind people at Matchstick. Unfortunately, the incredible package showed up at a time when I was travelling a ton and all but completely drowning in my work, so I didn’t get a chance to open it all up and play with it right away. Since my life settled down a little,  I have been having an absolute ball experimenting with these products over the last month or so.

Composed of vibrant stay-put shadows, smooth gel eyeliners, and pro-power mascaras, the stunning products are all under $10, but out-perform many pricier products I’ve tried. No joke—since opening my preview samples,  I’ve been using the Colour Plush Eyeshadow every day. I’ve been trying them all, and definitely being much more daring with colour than I have been in years. Love it!

Another product from this line that I can’t stop gushing about is the Eye Studio Colour Pearls eye shadow- particularly in Bronze Blowout. If you’re looking for an awesome every day, but not boring colour, this is it- epecially against the glow of your tanned summer skin. You can swirl it all together for a softer look, or apply the light on the bone and the dark on the lid or crease. You can even apply it wet for extra intensity or just brush it over your entire lid on days that you’re tight for time. I promise,  it looks hot even on its own- a really pretty, shimmering colour, with touches of gold…

7 different pure pigments are swirled together for gorgeous dimensional colour.

I’m obsessed.

If you’re looking for great products that fit into your beauty budget, Maybelline New York’s Eye Studio collection is the answer.
